FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – The New England Patriots opened a four-day rookie minicamp on Friday with 30 players, including all seven of the team’s draft picks. Top pick Logan Mankins, who played tackle at Fresno State, played guard during Friday’s drills.

“Obviously it’s the first step in a marathon process,” coach Bill Belichick said.

Also present were 10 undrafted free agents whose signings were announced on Friday.

They are offensive lineman Ryan Krug of Connecticut; running back DeCori Birmingham of Arkansas; long snapper Travis Conway of Virginia Tech; fullback Kyle Eckel of Navy; kicker Robbie Gould of Penn State; offensive tackle Mike Lorenz of Wisconsin; fullback Matt Phillips of Edinboro; linebacker Andre Torrey of Arizona; safety Raymond Ventrone of Villanova and defensive lineman Mike Wright of Cincinnati.

Undrafted free agents are longshots to make the regular-season roster, but it can happen. Cornerback Randall Gay went from undrafted rookie at the start of last season to Super Bowl starter.
