FARMINGTON – A Wilton teenager who was charged with manslaughter after a Farmington woman died in a car he was operating in 2004 is expected to plead guilty to the charge Thursday, May 12.

A Franklin County grand jury indicted Timothy D. Witham, 19, of Wilton in July on the manslaughter charge in the death of Mary McDonald, 21.

Witham initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, but his attorney, David Sanders, said Friday during a court appearance in Farmington that Witham intended to change his plea on May 12.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson confirmed Friday that Witham intends to plead guilty to the manslaughter charge.

Witham had a learner’s permit when he was driving a Ford Taurus station wagon on Temple Road on March 15, 2004, “at a high rate of speed,” lost control and it struck a tree, Wilton police officer Kevin McCutcheon said at the time.

McDonald was sitting in the front seat wearing a lap belt and died at the scene.

Witham, 18 at the time, was seriously injure,d and two other passengers were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment and released.
