LEWISTON — Designated hitter Nate Reid hit safely in four of his five at-bats and collected five RBIs on Monday, leading the Bobcats to a 10-7 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in baseball action.
Farmington jumped out to a 3-2 lead after three innings, but Reid’s three-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning capped a five-run surge to capture the lead that the Bobcats (9-13) never relinquished. Bates added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth. Griffin Finan put in seven solid innings of work on the mound for the Bobcats, allowing only three earned runs to earn his first victory of the season.
St. Joe’s 8, Salem State 2
STANDISH – Brian Schoola went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs to lift St. Joseph’s to an 8-2 victory over Salem State in baseball action on Monday.
Andy Exley had three hits along with two RBIs for the Monks (29-9), while Derek McIntosh drove in three of his own. Monk’s starter Steven Stout picked up the win, going five innings and allowing six hits and two earned runs.
Softball
USM, Bates split
GORHAM — Melissa Henderson scattered six hits over seven innings while fanning eight batters to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 5-4 win over Bates in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday.
Southern Maine got a three-RBI performance from catcher Kim Lipman who finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles. Kyla Decato helped keep Bates in the game with a two RBIs.
In the second game, Bates rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a run in the sixth and two runs in the top of the seventh to take the nightcap, 3-2.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh, the Bobcats parlayed a walk to Erin Foye, a single from Katie Franklin, a hit-batter and a walk to Caitlin Murphy to knot the score at 2-2. Kristin Masino then knocked in Franklin with a single for the eventual game-winning run.
With the split, Southern Maine is now 22-17-1 overall while Bates remains even on the season at 10-10.
