PORTLAND – Barbara Pollard Ryan, 70, of Gray, died Monday, May 2, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
She was born Aug. 22, 1934, on the family farm, the daughter of James W. B. and Sarah Hansen Pollard. She graduated from the Pennell Institute in 1952.
She married James Verrill on June 20, 1953, who predeceased her, and Joseph Ryan on June 29, 1973. She worked at Cole Farms, Cook’s Hardware and her brother Phil’s IGA store. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a member of the Red Hat Society, Gray Unit 86 American Legion Auxiliary and the Christian Women’s Fellowship.
She loved to travel and spent winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., with her husband, Joe. Most of all, she loved being with family.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph, of Gray; children, Colleen Verrill and Cindy Bunch, both of Gray, Joyce Barr of Vacaville, Calif., Melinda Frye and Wayne Verrill, both of Poland Spring, Michael Ryan of Gray, Judy Cross of Mobile, Ala., Karen Tibbets of Oxford, Robert Ryan of Gray and Joseph Ryan of Lewiston; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Donna Hill, Jane Barton and Geraldine Cose.
