MEXICO – Five people are seeking municipal positions, but only one race is contested.
Peter Merrill, Michael Mann and incumbent Barbara Laramee are running for two three-year seats on the Board of Selectmen. Laramee is seeking her second consecutive term.
Board of Selectmen Chairman Arthur Bordeau, a Mexico selectman since 1993, did not return nomination papers by the May 2 deadline.
If elected, Mann, who is on the Mexico Board of Appeals, would have to resign from that position, Town Clerk Penny Duguay said Tuesday.
Duguay, of Byron, is running unopposed, seeking re-election as town clerk for another three years. She said she was first elected in 1996.
Also running unopposed for a three-year seat on the SAD 43 School Board is Randall Canwell. Director Frances DePhillip decided not to seek re-election.
The candidates are to go before voters in a secret-ballot election Tuesday, June 14.
Town meeting is to be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 13, but the venue changed this year from the Mexico Rec Center to Mountain Valley Middle School on Highland Terrace.
