LEWISTON – The artwork of June Dragoon of Peru is being featured during May by the Woman’s Hospital Association of Central Maine Medical Center.

Dragoon said, “Although I have studied with a number of well-known artists, I am basically self-taught. I am constantly learning and striving to improve my technique. Painting gives me a new way of looking at the world. I work in a variety of mediums, although the versatility of watercolor is magic to me.”

She has done many galleries and sidewalk shows, including ones in Portland, South Portland, Bethel, Farmington, Norway, Winthrop, Poland Spring, Pennacook Art Gallery, Mermaid Art Gallery, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and Stevens Memorial Hospital. She has received awards in many shows.

Dragoon said, “Surrounded by family and countryside, I have endless subject matter.”

She enjoys climbing mountains (Mount Katahdin, Knife’s Edge), camping with my family and Alpine skiing. I love a challenge. Probably that’s why I am an artist.”

The association supports the medical center and its patients by promoting the health and welfare of the community, raising money to fund special projects. Anyone interested in membership in the association or the monthly artist showings should call the WHA at 795-2295.
