MTM open house
LISBON – There will be an open house at the MTM Center on School Street, formerly the Marion T. Morse School, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7. The center houses the Historical Society, Senior Citizens and the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach clothing bank and food pantry, among other groups. Oil paintings of Lisbon landmarks and other scenes by Frank Gross will be on display at the new center.
Democrats to meet
AUBURN – The Auburn City Democratic Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, in the Community Meeting Room of the Auburn Police Station. A general business session will be followed by a talk by Rex Rhoades, executive editor of the Lewiston Sun Journal, on the subject of balancing personal political beliefs and editorial fairness. Refreshments will be available during and following the meeting. All registered Democrats who reside in the city of Auburn are invited to attend the meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the same location. Visitors are also welcome. Breakfast slated
WINDHAM – The Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce will hold its first legislative breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Charlie Beigg’s on Roosevelt Trail. The chamber serves members in Casco, Gray, Naples, Raymond, Sebago Lake, Standish and Windham. Members and any other business owners are invited to meet with local legislators to ask questions about current issues before the Legislature. The cost of the breakfast is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Seating is limited. People may call the chamber office at 892-8265 or the Lakes Region Weekly office at 892-1166 for reservations.
Historical society
LISBON – Local writer Jim Baumer will give the monthly history talk at the Lisbon Historical Society in Lisbon Falls at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11. Baumer, who grew up in Lisbon Falls, will give a talk titled “Local Baseball Made Me Do It.” Based on the extensive research compiled for his forthcoming book, “When Towns Had Teams,” Baumer will share with his audience the history and heritage of town team baseball in Lisbon and Lisbon Falls. Included in the talk will be information about two of the town’s better-known teams, the Worumbo Indians and the Roberts 88’ers. The Lisbon Historical Society is located in the MTM Center on School Street in Lisbon Falls, Rooms 5 and 6.
