Why is it that the times of sunrise and sunset listed in the Farmers’ Almanac don’t really change much over the years?
The times of sunrise and sunset are based on two constants: the movement of the Earth around the sun, and the rotation of the Earth on its axis. Our count of time, as measured by our clocks, is based on these constants, so there is really no reason to expect any major deviations from one year to the next.
What is V-E Day?
V-E Day is Victory in Europe Day, and commemorates the unconditional surrender of Germany to the Allied Forces. The surrender took place 60 years ago, on May 8, 1945. The actual surrender document was signed by German representatives, and became effective one minute past midnight on May 9, 1945, which was 7:01 p.m., May 8, in the United States. President Harold S. Truman originally designated May 9 as V-E Day, but it later became May 8.
What is the most popular bird feed to use to attract birds to our feeder?
We have found that the most universally liked feed is the black oil sunflower seed. These seeds provide the most nourishment and are in a pod that even small birds can crack open.
Another favorite, especially in the winter before the hot weather arrives, is peanut suet. Different feeds, of course, attract different types of birds. To attract hummingbirds, make a nectar that is one part sugar, to four parts water, and boiled for three minutes. Then place in a hummingbird feeder. Thistle seed also attracts small birds, especially finches.
I have heard that spider silk is as strong as steel. Do you know if this is true?

We want to plant some corn this year and have heard it has to be in at least two or more rows for cross generation. Is this true?
This is correct. You should have at least 3 rows for cross generation. Generally speaking, an outside row does not grow well or produce corn. As a rule, three rows is a minimum.
Any way to prevent bug bites this time of the year?
Try applying vapor rub to your skin, and avoid wearing perfume and brightly colored clothing. Some say eating garlic before heading outdoors helps keep the bugs away.
