HARTFORD – Selectmen will meet with Road Commissioner Bim McNeil to try to stop runoff from the Town Farm Road going onto private property.
Singrid Houlette and Kurt Margeson said at Thursday’s board meeting that it has been a year since former Selectman Scott Swain told them he would talk with McNeil about the situation, and nothing has been done. Heavy rains this season have gone into the Town Farm Road ditch and eventually into their driveway and cellar, they said.
Margeson said he would dig a ditch to divert the runoff through a culvert McNeil installed, if the town gives him permission.
Selectman Lee Holman said she and Selectman Laura Marston would talk to McNeil.
The board amended the policy that requires town officials who resign before their term expires to return part or all of their annual stipend. Instead of putting a lien on the official’s property if the money is not repaid in 30 days of resignation, the amended policy simply says legal action will be taken.
The board approved a letter to be sent to Swain, who drafted the original policy. Swain resigned March 2, about four months before his three-year term was up in June. He sold his home and left town.
Swain is being advised to return $1,000 of his $3,000 annual stipend, which was paid in two installments April 15 and Nov. 15, Holman said.
The board accepted the resignation of Animal Control Officer Lianne Bedard, effective as soon as a replacement can be found.
