LEWISTON – Benoit “Ben” Albert Bineau, 67, of Circle Drive, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a brief illness on Saturday, May 7, while in the loving care of the nurses at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Augusta, on April 30, 1938, the son of Albert and Yvonne (Poulin) Bineau. He grew up and attended schools in Augusta prior to moving to this area.

He later served his country in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. Following his military service, he worked for Laverdiere’s Drug Store for 17 years as the store manager and later, along with his wife, Janet, owned and operated The Country Nook salon in Lisbon where he worked until his retirement.

He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was victorious in the long courageous battle with the disease, for which his family was extremely proud of him.

He had a passion for flowers, enjoyed decorating around the house, and loved Native American culture.

Ben had a love for his family and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Janet (Staples) Bineau of Lewiston, whom he married on June 21, 1958; his daughter, Michelle Bineau and her lifelong partner, Elaine Fougere, both of Gray; his son, Jeffrey Bineau and his wife, Peggy, of Lisbon; his two granddaughters, Roxanne and Alexis Bineau of Lisbon; his brother, Raymond Bineau of Augusta; and by several loving nieces and nephews.
