NEW YORK – Kevin Brown’s first warmup pitch hit the backstop on the fly. He followed with his best outing since last summer.
Brown escaped a pair of bases-loaded jams and pitched seven sharp innings, leading the New York Yankees over the Oakland Athletics 6-0 Sunday.
Alex Rodriguez hit a go-ahead homer, and slumping Hideki Matsui had a run-scoring single off Rich Harden (2-2). Tino Martinez added a three-run homer in the eighth.

MIAMI – Clint Barmes’ inside-the-park home run scored three runs, and Aaron Miles hit a grand slam to help the Colorado Rockies snap a 10-game losing streak by beating the Florida Marlins 8-3.

ATLANTA – Mike Hampton pitched a two-hitter and homered, and rookie Ryan Langerhans had six RBIs as the Atlanta Braves completed a four-game sweep of Houston with a 16-0 win Sunday, the Astros’ 11th straight road loss.
Hampton (4-1) faced one batter over the minimum and allowed his fewest hits in a complete game.

MILWAUKEE – Rookie J.J. Hardy singled in Junior Spivey with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers ended the New York Mets’ four-game winning streak with a 5-4 victory Sunday.
Jeff Cirillo and Geoff Jenkins also had three hits for Milwaukee, which outhit New York 17-5.
Tigers 10, Angels 1
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Mike Maroth pitched three-hit ball over eight innings, Ivan Rodriguez triggered a seven-run third with a three-run triple and Brandon Inge homered, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 10-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

BALTIMORE – The Kansas City Royals blew a seven-run lead, then scored the tiebreaking run on an eighth-inning balk by Steve Kline and held on to beat the Baltimore Orioles 10-8 Sunday.
Angel Berroa, Matt Stairs and Mike Sweeney homered for the Royals, who snapped a five-game skid. Kansas City had lost 14 of 16 and 17 of 20.
Rangers 7, Indians 2
ARLINGTON, Texas – Kenny Rogers extended his shutout streak to 21 innings with seven innings of six-hit ball as the Texas Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 7-2.
Rogers (3-2) struck out four and walked four while winning his third straight start.
Cardinals 15, Padres 5
ST. LOUIS – Scott Rolen had four RBIs, and David Eckstein had two hits and an RBI in an 11-run first inning as the St. Louis Cardinals avoided a four-game sweep by beating the San Diego Padres 15-5.
Larry Walker homered, doubled, singled and had two RBIs for St. Louis.
Cubs 2, Phillies 1
CHICAGO – Neifi Perez and Aramis Ramirez homered to back Carlos Zambrano’s five-hitter, and the Chicago Cubs snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
White Sox 5, Blue Jays 4
TORONTO – Mark Buehrle won his fourth straight decision, and Jermaine Dye and Juan Uribe homered to lead the Chicago White Sox to their eighth straight victory, 5-4 over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Twins 9, Devil Rays 6
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Justin Morneau had his second career four-hit game and drove in three runs, leading the Minnesota Twins past the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 9-6.
Morneau went 4-for-4 and came within a homer of the cycle.
Pirates 16, D-backs 2
PHOENIX – Matt Lawton hit his first grand slam in six years, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 16-2 Sunday for their fifth win in six games.
Lawton went 3-for-5 and had five RBIs for the Pirates.
, who scored 12 runs in the final two innings. He doubled in a run during Pittsburgh’s seven-run ninth against Kerry Ligtenberg.
Daryle Ward hit a three-run homer during the inning, Jack Wilson had a two-run single and Rob Mackowiak had a run-scoring single. The Pirates set season highs for runs and hits (17).
Ty Wigginton had three hits, including his first homer of the year, Humberto Cota had a two-run double, and Kip Wells worked seven solid innings for his third straight win.
Wells (3-3) gave up two runs and four hits, including a solo homer by Luis Gonzalez, and walked three. Gonzalez drew one of the walks and scored Arizona’s first run on Chad Tracy’s fourth-inning sacrifice fly.
But the Diamondbacks’ offense was otherwise down for a second straight game. They had only two hits in a 3-2 loss Saturday night and six in this one.
Pittsburgh put away the game in the eighth, scoring five runs after Diamondbacks reliever Jose Valverde walked the first two batters and allowed a pinch-hit single to Freddy Sanchez.
Bobby Hill, pinch-hitting for Wells, had an RBI single off Javier Lopez to reload the bases before Lawton drove the first pitch into the right-field seats for his fourth grand slam and first since April 17, 1999, at Cleveland.
Arizona’s Brad Halsey (2-1) lost for the first time in seven starts.
Halsey, winless in three starts since beating San Diego 5-3 on April 22, allowed four runs on seven hits and an uncharacteristic four walks in 6 2-3 innings.
He had issued only three walks in 35 innings coming in, but struggled with his control from the start.
Halsey walked Lawton, his first batter, leading to Jason Bay’s sacrifice fly.
In the second, Halsey got one out before Wigginton’s opposite-field shot cleared the fence in right.
The game remained 2-0 until the sixth, when Jose Castillo lined a single to left and Wigginton beat out an infield hit. Cota, a catcher whose improvement in his second full season gave manager Lloyd McClendon the option of releasing Benito Santiago on Sunday, then lined a double into the left-field corner. Both runners scored when the ball rolled away from Gonzalez along the bullpen fence.
Notes: The Pirates put OF Craig Wilson on the DL before the game and purchased the contract of Ray Sadler from Double-A Altoona. Sadler made a spectacular catch for his first major league putout, chasing Gonzalez’s opposite-field liner to the left-field line and then nearly doubling up Alex Cintron at first base. … The Pirates have had an extra-base hit in all 30 games. … Bay doubled in the fourth to extend his hitting streak to seven games. … Arizona CF Jose Cruz Jr. (sore back) began a rehab assignment by playing five innings for Triple-A Tucson.
