LEWISTON – Thirty-three Lewiston youth ages 12 to 18 will be honored at the 8th annual Lewiston Shining Stars Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11. The public is welcome to attend at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St.

Ten of the youths will be named 2005 Lewiston Shining Stars.

Mayor Lionel C. Guay Jr. will deliver a commendation address to the nominees, and Serena Fortier, 2001 Shining Star, will share what being a Shining Star meant to her, as well as perform a song that she’s written especially for the event.

Fortier is a junior at Berklee College in Boston majoring in professional music. Katie Lauze, chairwoman of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, will sing the national anthem, and Lewiston’s Community Relations Coordinator Dottie Perham-Whittier will serve as emcee.

A PowerPoint presentation will commemorate the many positive contributions the 33 nominees provide to the community, and certificates along with a commemorative dog tag/chain will be given to each. In addition, gifts donated by area businesses will be presented to the 2005 Shining Stars. A drawing will be held for a computer to be presented to one of the Shining Stars.

Nominated as Shining Stars are: Athena Andoniades, Tiffany Beaudoin, Amanda Blais, Nicholas Bouyea, Kristen Brooks, Christina Campbell, Victoria Colby, Alison M. Coleman, Kathryn DeAngelis, Ashley Doyon, Danielle Dubuc, Joline Dubuc, Kyle A. Dupuis, Nathalie C. Dupuis, Tanya Galipeau, Luke Jensen, Zachary Jensen, Matthew Jones, Maya Katzir, Justin Labonte, Katie Lacasse, Andrea Lama, Laura Laverdiere, Samantha Leeman, Loren Lepage, Mina Moore, Ashley Morgan, Danielle Nadeau, Sarah Pelletier, Caitlyn Robitaille, Jessica L. Roy, Todd Sinclair Jr. and Jeff Theberge.

Judges for this year’s selections were: Lewiston Councilor Ronald Jean; Perham-Whittier; Nick Knowlton, owner of GSM Group; and Mary LaFontaine, manager of the Lewiston Career Center.
