NEW YORK (AP) – Maine Gov. John Baldacci rang the New York Stock Exchange opening bell Monday, marking the transformation of a state economy reliant on traditional industries to one primed for business growth.
Baldacci, a Democrat, was joined by state Treasurer David Lemoine, Wright Express President Mike Dubyak, representing one of Maine’s largest technology-focused corporations, and Michael Federle, publisher of Fortune magazine and a Maine native.
Also on Monday, Baldacci was scheduled to meet with representatives of Wall Street rating agencies. Similar sessions are to follow over the next few days for Lemoine, Baldacci administration budget chief Rebecca Wyke and other state officials.
