TOGUS – Frederick E. Lovering Jr., 79, of Old Mill Road, Litchfield, passed away Monday, May 9, at Togus.

He was born on April 26, 1926, in Bangor, the son of Frederick and Lillian (Degastrom) Lovering Sr.

He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He belonged to the American Legion VAVS, VA & R, American Legion in Richmond and was a past member of the Litchfield American Legion. He was the past commander for Richmond and Litchfield posts, and past district and county commander. He was voted top Legionnaire for the state of Maine in 1989. He was the past postmaster for the town of Litchfield, retiring in 1975.

He enjoyed playing with his favorite dog, “Ben.”

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jean Lovering, of Litchfield; sons, Mark Lovering of Livermore, Mitch Lovering and his wife, Sarah, of Turner and Matt Lovering; brother, Robert Lovering of Gardiner; sister, Polly Southerberg Gardiner; sister-in-law, Barbara Lovering, of Augusta; grandchildren, Josh, Greg, Tony and Blair Lovering; and great-granddaughter, Skylar Lovering.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Lewis Lovering; brother-in-law, Rod Southerberg; sister, Jerry Ann Lovering; sister-in-law, Alice Lovering; and daughter-in-law, Joline Lovering.
