WILTON MANORS, Fla. – Peter Charles Grant, 43, of Wilton Manors, Fla., formerly of Lewiston, died unexpectedly May 2.

He was born on March 7, 1962, in Lewiston, the only child of Myles “Jim” and Audrey Grant. He was raised in Lewiston and attended Lewiston schools. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1980, attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle and then the University of Southern Maine, graduating in 1984.

He was very active and devoted to DeMolay International. He served as the Maine state master counselor in 1979. He believed and exemplified DeMolay’s principles of leading successful, happy and productive lives. During his senior year in high school he also served an internship for former Congressman John McKernan.

He worked for Macy’s of New York as retail development manager and in-store merchandising. He loved fashion and style, and upon graduation from college he entered a lifelong career in large department store retail sales. He began with Jordan Marsh in South Portland. He then worked for Federated Department Stores of New York, Hecht’s in Washington, D.C., Deerfoam in Columbus, Ohio, Burdines in South Florida and Sports Authority.

He was outgoing, always smiling, and a caring friend to all. He enjoyed friendships and family in both his native Lewiston, and his adopted home of Fort Lauderdale.

He is survived by his mother, Audrey of Lewiston; close friend, Cory Matthews of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his aunts, Charlene Gilley and her husband, James, of Jonestown, Pa., and Virginia Adams of Auburn; his uncle, Robert Grant of Lewiston; his cousins, David Gilley and his wife, Mary, of Cundys Harbor and their children, Matthew, Elizabeth and Sierra, Mark Adams and his wife, Kate, of Lewiston and their children, Tucker and Tanner, Patricia Gurdus and her husband, David, of Fredericksburg, Pa., and their children, Elisha and Joshua, Michael Adams of Scarborough, and Ron Grant, Dawna Pease, Diane Boisvert and Rick Grant, all of Monmouth. His laughter and friendship will be deeply missed by all.

He was predeceased by his father in 1998; loving grandparents, Charles and Irene Ashton Gardner of Sabattus and Cundys Harbor, and Myles Sr., and Bernice “Pidgey’ Grant of Sabattus.
