LEWISTON – Phyllis Strout, 86, of Mechanic Falls, passed away peacefully at d’Youville Pavilion, where she was the sweet lady with the great smile, on Monday, May 9, after a seven-year bout with Alzheimer’s.

She was born Aug. 18, 1918, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys Jordan Meserve. She graduated from Edward Little high School, Class of 1936, and attended the University of Maine.

On Nov. 12, 1949, she married Clayton W. Strout, who died in 1980. They made their home in Mechanic Falls, where she primarily devoted her life to caring for her home and enjoyed working in her garden. She retired from Callahan Brothers where she worked as a secretary.

She is survived by a son, Clayton W. Strout and his wife, Harriet, of Poland; a twin brother, Philmore “Red” Meserve and his wife, Lula, of Mechanic Falls; a sister, Joan Meserve of Vermont; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan Strout; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Malcolm Meserve; and a sister, Constance Meserve and her husband.
