CANTON – Ruth E. Tardy, 94, of Canton Point Road, Dixfield, died Sunday, May 8, at the Victorian Villa in Canton, where she had been a resident for the past two months.

She was born April 12, 1911, in Livermore, a daughter of Ernest and Viola (Bisbee) Drake. She graduated from Canton schools.

She married Waldo Porter and raised a family of six children. She later re-married to Lawrence Tardy, who died in 1959.

She worked at the Lakefield and Pinewood Camps in Canton, the Dixfield Nursing Home and at the Jay Shoe Shop. She was a very independent woman, living on her own until recent months; enjoying time spent with family, flea marketing, sewing and her flowers.

She is survived by a son, Frank Porter and his wife, Florence, of Dixfield; daughters, Pauline Puiia and her husband, Carmelo, of Rumford, Betty Enman and her husband, John, of Phillips, Mary Bacheldor of New Hampshire and Pearle Williamson and her husband, Richard, of Lewiston; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Maxine Hayden; granddaughter, Rebecca Johnstone; grandson, Derek Puiia; and eight brothers and sisters.
