LIVERMORE FALLS – Budget Committee members will take up a spending proposal of more than $2 million for municipal operations in 2005-06 when they meet Wednesday.
The committee is expected to review both the town manager’s and selectmen’s budget recommendations during the 1:30 p.m. meeting at the Municipal Building.
Selectmen are recommending a $2.15 million budget, which includes $28,000 for a pedestrian and bike path to match a $112,000 state grant for the downtown project along the river, $27,000 for the municipal building roof, $12,000 for a new town utility truck, $25,000 for road rebuilding, $352,535 for insurance, $318,882 for police, $133,000 for dispatch, $110,682 for administration, $271,937 for highway, and $68,478 for the Fire Department.
The proposed budget amount does not include an Area Youth Sports request for $2,350 for liability insurance. Selectmen have agreed to put that before voters in a separate warrant article, Town Manager Alan Gove said.
Gove’s recommendation is $2.21 million, which includes $135,900 for capital improvements, including a $28,000 grant match for the pedestrian and bicycle path, $50,000 for road rebuilding, and $15,000 for a pad for metal recycling. Gove’s proposal also includes $15,000 for a fire truck reserve, and $6,500 for agencies, including $6,000 for Greater Franklin Development Corp., an economic development organization.
Gove’s recommendations for most town departments remained the same in the selectmen’s proposal.
Selectmen did reduce a capital reserve account for the Fire Department to $7,500 due to a study to be conducted on fire equipment, the town manager said Tuesday. Gove had recommended $15,000.
The board also reduced the capital improvement proposal in its budget from $135,000 to $96,400.
Both proposals represent an increase over the existing budget.
Gove’s proposal, including capital improvement projects, is about $64,729 more than the existing budget of $2.14 million. The selectmen’s proposal is $12,849 more than the existing budget.
Selectmen are expected to set the warrant articles for the June 15 town meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the Municipal Building
