AUBURN – Joline Girouard, a longtime math teacher at St. Dominic Regional High School, is a finalist in Wal-Mart’s Teacher of the Year competition.

Nationwide, Wal-Mart honored more than 3,800 teachers for making a difference in the lives of young people. Girouard was one of 28 in Maine.

Girouard will now receive an honorary Wal-Mart greeter’s vest. St. Dom’s will receive $1,000.

Girouard may now enter the company’s state and national Teacher of the Year competition. Each state winner earns $10,000 for their school, and the national winner will get $25,000.

Other Maine winners teach in Bethel, Mexico, Poland and Wilton.
