Tenor to sing

STRONG – Piano player and tenor Larry Ahlborn will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Nazarene Church. He has a mellow-tenor voice with a down-home style. All are welcome.

Plant sale

FARMINGTON – The Mt. Blue Area Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14, in Meetinghouse Park, across from the courthouse on Main Street.

Donations of healthy, clearly marked and priced plants will be welcome and accepted that morning beginning at 7:30.

The garden club is also planning the annual meeting and membership luncheon for Tuesday, June 7, at the Granary Restaurant. All members and anyone who would like to join the club are welcome to attend. Lunch will be served at noon. Those attending are asked to arrive a bit before then to check in and to take care of membership dues.

All those wishing to attend should contact Marion Hutchinson at 645-2067 to reserve a space as soon as possible.

Class reunion

JAY – Another meeting for the Jay High School class of 1955 to continue planning for the 50th reunion will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the home of Joyce (LaPointe) Couture.Members are welcome to offer their suggestions.

Paddling clinic

AVON – SAD 58 Adult and Community Education will offer a Safe Paddling Clinic for canoe, kayak and motorboat enthusiasts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the Opportunity Center of North Franklin County, 105 Avon Valley Road.

The class will take place on Bobby Pond and will cover topics in proper operation and safety, state laws, emergencies and survival in cold water, first aid and environmental ethics. Cost is $10 a person, ages 12 and up, and includes certification in boating safety upon successful completion. Participants may bring their own equipment if desired. The instructor is Rick Rogers.

Collins hours

JAY – Sen. Susan Collins has announced that a representative from her Lewiston office will hold office hours in communities throughout Maine in May. The representative will be available to meet with residents to listen to their concerns and provide assistance with regard to federal issues and federal agencies.

Staff Assistant Carlene Tremblay will be available at the Jay Town Office, 99 Main St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26.

Riley meeting

JAY – The last Riley meeting will be a breakfast buffet at LaFleur’s on Saturday, May 21. The meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. with the buffet to be served at 10.
