MIAMI, Fla. – Roland Renaldo Saucier Sr., died May 1, in Miami.

A Lewiston native, he was born April 14, 1914, the son of Chrysologue and Leonie Phenix Saucier. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1933, where he served as class president and excelled at sports.

After high school, he played amateur hockey with the Cyclones and was later inducted into the Lewiston-Auburn Sports Hall of Fame. He served in the U.S. Army in both the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II. In 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, Addie Mae Bryant, who died in August 2000.

He was principal of Commercial Rubber Co. for nearly 30 years. After retirement, his full-time occupations were golf and grandfatherhood. He was a member of Fairlawn Country Club. He was a devoted parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church, Lewiston.

At his 90th birthday party in 2004, he was asked, “What is the best thing about being 90?” After a pause, he replied, “No peer pressure.” His greatest joy was seeing his beloved Red Sox win the World Series.

He is survived by his daughter, Louise Saucier Valdes-Fauli of Miami, Fla.; his son, Roland R. Saucier and his wife, Carolyn Anderson Saucier, of Chatham, Ill.; grandchildren, Alexandra Valdes-Fauli, Andrea Valdes-Fauli Oguz and husband, Atakan Oguz, and Nicolas Valdes-Fauli, all of New York City and Rollo Ill., and Jennifer Saucier of Chatham, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Albert Rowbotham.
