HEBRON – Five people were arrested and nearly 300 marijuana plants confiscated in a Thursday morning drug raid at four residences in Greenwood and Hebron.
A total of 295 marijuana plants were seized, as well as almost a pound of processed marijuana, seven guns, scales for weighing drugs and three doses of LSD. The search warrants were drawn up by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office in executing the warrants were the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Maine State Police Tactical Team, the Dixfield Police Department and a police dog from the U.S. Border Patrol.
Arrested a pre-dawn raid at 170 Howe Hill Road in Greenwood were: Thomas Obear, 33, and his girlfriend, Joanna Reese, 26; and Daniel Smith, 21, and his girlfriend, Vanessa Reese, 23.
The Reeses are sisters, and the two couples lived in the home, officials said.
Each was charged with possessing between 100 and 500 marijuana plants, a Class C felony, and possessing less than a pound of processed marijuana, a Class D misdemeanor.
In addition, Vanessa Reese was charged with possessing three doses of the hallucinogen LSD, also a Class D misdemeanor.
They were taken to Oxford County Jail in Paris and released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
In addition, three Hebron homes were raided and one man was arrested.
Police found 132 marijuana plants, as well as three firearms, at Wallace Douglas’ home at 7 Douglas Drive. One of the firearms was a loaded shotgun.
Douglas, 36, was charged with a Class B felony, aggravated marijuana cultivation, because the loaded weapon was found in conjunction with the marijuana plants.
He was also charged with violation of probation and is being held at the Oxford County Jail without bail.
Police also searched two other Hebron homes and seized a total of 57 marijuana plants, drug scales and four firearms.
The suspected owners of the materials were not home at the time, and the MDEA left messages asking them to contact the MDEA.
Gerry Baril, MDEA supervisor at the Lewiston office, said the 295 plants had not yet reached maturity.
A mature marijuana plant, he said, yields an average of a quarter-pound of salable marijuana, adding that the street value of a pound of marijuana is between $2,000 and $4,000, depending on the quality.
Baril said Thursday’s operation was “mid-range to average” for Oxford County in the amount of drugs seized.
Baril said the four Greenwood residents could get up to five years in prison for the felonies.
Douglas, he said, could get up to 10 years.
