PORTLAND – Several hands-on canning workshops will teach the basic steps for success in pressure canning and boiling water bath canning.

The workshops will cover the following food preservation basics: recommended preservation methods, the latest and safest recipes, equipment to ensure safety and checking for properly sealed jars.

Participants will receive the “Let’s Preserve” publication series from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.

Class size is limited. Call soon to preregister. All sites are air-conditioned. Those attending should bring a potholder.

“Preserving the Harvest” will be offered at the following locations:

June 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UMCE, Androscoggin/Sagadahoc County Extension Office, 24 Main St., Lisbon Falls. Call Lois at 1-800-287-1471 by May 31 to register.

June 10, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Southern Maine Community College Culinary Arts Building 14, Room CA03 Fort Rd., South Portland. Call Lois at 1-800-287-1471 by June 2 to register.

June 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Portland Public Market Demonstration Kitchen, corner of Cumberland Avenue and Preble Street, Portland. Call Lois at 1-800-287-1471 by June 9 to register.
