Is he the new James Bond?

NEW YORK (AP) – If Daniel Craig is going to be the next James Bond, it’s news to him.

Craig, who stars in the upcoming thriller “Layer Cake,” says he first heard the rumor from British tabloids while he was filming a movie in Texas.

“They seem to know a lot more than I do,” Craig told reporters recently, according to AP Radio.

Craig praised the Bond character, calling him “an iconographic figure in movie- making,” but said he hasn’t given the role “any serious thought.”

But he added: “I think you’d have to be stupid not to consider something like that.”

The blond, blue-eyed British-born actor’s credits include the 2005 thriller “The Jacket,” starring Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley.

Craig, 37, co-starred with Tom Hanks in the 2002 film “The Road to Perdition” and with Gwyneth Paltrow in “Sylvia,” about the lives of writers Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath.

“Layer Cake,” based on the novel by J.J. Connolly, opened in selected cities Friday.

Country’s Clark engaged

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Terri Clark and Greg Kaczor, her longtime friend and tour manager, are engaged. They plan to be married this fall.

“Greg couldn’t be a more perfect fit for me,” the 36-year-old country singer said in a statement Thursday. “I mean, who knows me better than the man I’m with around the clock? He supports my grueling career schedule and has always been there for me.”

The couple have known each other and worked together for nearly 10 years. Kaczor became her tour manager and acoustic guitar bandmate in 1997.

Clark’s hits include “Girls Lie Too” and “I Just Wanna Be Mad.”

And they said it wouldn’t last

NEW YORK (AP) – Mena Suvari has filed for divorce from cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, her husband of five years.

The report by Us Weekly magazine was confirmed Wednesday by Suvari’s publicist, Melissa Kates. The statement said Suvari is claiming irreconcilable differences as the basis for her divorce petition, filed Tuesday.

Us Weekly said the court papers were filed in Los Angeles.

Brinkmann, 43, and Suvari, 26, eloped in March 2000 just after the actress had turned 21.

The couple met while working on the cheerleading comedy “Sugar & Spice.” They recently collaborated on the upcoming “Standing Still,” a film directed by Matthew Weiss.

Suvari’s screen credits also include “American Beauty,” two “American Pie” films and “Beauty Shop.”
