How could a life insurance company deny a widow her money simply because her sick husband missed two payments?
This is what an insurance agent at Tolman Associates in Lewiston wondered when she read a story about Diane Beaucage.
A 46-year-old mother of three, Beaucage lost her husband, Marc, last month to a sudden stroke and brain aneurysm.
It wasn’t until after his death that Beaucage learned that her husband had fallen behind in his life insurance payments while suffering with debilitating headaches and blurred vision.
He missed two payments. As a result, Valley Forge Life Insurance of Nashville, Tenn., told Beaucage she wasn’t eligible for the $250,000 payout.
That just didn’t seem right to the agent at Tolman Associates.
After reading the story, which focused on a local designer who volunteered to remodel Beaucage’s run-down home, the agent called Beaucage to ask if she could fight on her behalf.
“I don’t think she’s gotten too far,” Beaucage said. “But it’s just nice that she’s trying.”
