MEXICO – Agnes J. Carignan, 87, wife of William “Chick” Carignan of 8 Bucknum St., died Saturday, May 14, shortly after her arrival at the Rumford Community Hospital.
She was born Feb. 15, 1918, in Mexico, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Whyte Convery. A resident of this community all her life, she graduated from Mexico High School with the Class of 1935.
She retired from the main coaters of the Oxford Paper Co., where she had worked as an inspector and had 31 years of service.
She was a life member of the 1918 Club, a member of the 25 Year Club of Retired Oxford Paper Co. Employees, and the St. Andrew Society. Forever “29,” she was the matriarch of both the Convery and Carignan clans and a regular at Teena’s Tuesday night chicken pie supper.
Surviving beside her husband of Mexico are 10 nieces and nephews, Jim Convery and his wife, Alice, of Massachusetts, Robert Convery and his wife, Cindy, of Scarborough, Raymond Convery and his wife, Donna, of Winthrop, William “Biz” Carignan and his wife, Sandra, of Rumford Center, Cyndi and her husband, Dennis Flaherty, of Saco, Gloria and her husband, John Hargreaves, of Rumford, Pam and her husband, Kerry Gill, of Scarborough, Debby and her husband, Geary LaPerle, of Auburn, Dr. Peter and his wife, Marti Carignan, of Scarborough, Paul and his wife, Karen Carignan, of Saco; many great nieces and nephews; her caretakers, Carrie and Gayle McPherson, Elaine Hutchinson and Jane McDonald.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and James Convery; and a niece, Carmen Davis.
