AUBURN – Sewer district trustees have authorized amendments to a five-year-old sewer line agreement with Poland Spring Bottling Co.

Approval will be sought this week from the Poland Board of Selectmen.

Although the water bottling plant has had a business arrangement for wastewater disposal with the Auburn Sewerage District for 15 years, a sewer line was extended to the plant in Poland in 2000. The agreement was drafted at that time between the sewerage district, the town of Poland and Poland Spring. Prior to 2000, wastewater was trucked to Auburn.

Poland Spring seeks the amendments so its satellite facilities in Poland could hook onto the sewer line.

Sewerage District General Manager Norm Lamie said Poland Spring paid for the sewer line and all improvements. The bottling company has also agreed to pay attorney fees to draft the amendments.

In other business, trustees voted to purchase 0.12 acres on Hotel Road for $5,000. The acquisition is the site of the Little Andy Pump Station, which has operated at the privately owned site for 25 years with an easement.

Lamie said the board took the action because of the significant investment at the site.
