Maine State Employees Association President Dana Graham’s column (May 7) regarding their newly enacted fair-share policy was simply more propaganda from the state employees’ union.

Having been a state employee since 1986, I have paid my share of union dues and have often been upset at the causes MSEA has chosen to support monetarily along with contributions from the national organization, SEIU.

I had always heard the rallying cry that members are the union and members’ active participation was one of the ways changes for the better occurred. But now it boils down to forcing people to support and endorse views they may personally not wish to support.

Although I am a member of the union, I know that I, and many others, don’t believe anyone should be required to pay the union. I was one of their active members, serving on committees and testifying before the Legislature, but now I no longer have a choice to pay dues or not.

More funds for the union coffers and the politicians they support. Shame on you!
