LEWISTON – Community Clinical Services will open a family practice in Lisbon Falls on July 5.

Known as the Lisbon Falls Family Health Center, the practice will be initially staffed by Dr. Brian Knighton, a family practitioner who has been serving patients at Brunswick Naval Air Station.

A second doctor is expected to join the practice in early 2006, according to Russ Donahue, a spokesman for Sisters of Charity Health Systems. Sisters of Charity is the parent corporation for Community Clinical Services and St. Mary’s Regional Hospital.

Donahue said that because the Lisbon Falls practice is a federal qualified health center, it will be able to offer a sliding-fee billing schedule based on patients’ income and ability to pay.

The 3,900-square-foot center, which will be located in the new shopping center adjacent to Lisbon High School, will offer a range of patient services that will include basic radiology and medical lab services.

If there is enough patient demand, the center could also offer nurse midwifery and outpatient behavioral services.

Donahue said the facility’s conference room will double as a classroom for health and wellness education programs.

The center is lining up office and professional staff. In the meantime, people who want to arrange for appointments there may call the St. Mary’s physician referral line at 777-8899 to get on a waiting list, Donahue said.
