Dear Sun Spots: Thank you for all the good advice and answers you give to everyone.

We are wondering if there are people out there who would be interested in joining a sewing group that would eventually expand to become a chapter of the American Sewing Guild. We have started to organize but need more members. We would like to include people of all sewing levels who are interested in learning new techniques, doing community projects and getting discounts on fabric and supplies. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Craftmania craft room, 730 Center St., Auburn, (207) 828-8033. Anyone interested may contact Kathy Williamson at [email protected] or Betty Turgeon at [email protected]. – Betty Turgeon, Lewiston.

Dear Sun Spots: Is there any way to save a videocassette tape which was pulled out of the cartridge about 10 inches at the beginning of the tape when the recorder malfunctioned? Is there a local company that could save this VHS tape for me?

I also am in need of a projection bulb for an older Sawyer Roto Tray projector. The original Sylvania bulb box has this information on the flap: DAK 500 W.-120V. I later used a Riluma projection with this information on the flap: PN100 8V 50W, P30s.

You have been of tremendous help to me in the past, but I don’t think I’ve seen any requests along the lines I am writing about today. – Fred G., No Town.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, you may want to consider contacting Camera Service Center, 192 Center St., Auburn, (207) 782-7171. While they no longer repair them themselves, they’d be happy to assist with sending your item to Chinon or Kodak. If you have a silent Chinon movie projector, the cost is $250, with half the balance due prior to repair or it’s $320 if 8 mm with sound. If the company determines your item is beyond repair, or they no longer have the parts for it, you would receive your deposit back minus a $45 charge. If your machine is a Kodak, you will need to contact Camera Service Center with the model number.

You may also want to consider transferring this to tape and Camera Service Center would be happy to assist you in preserving your family memories and history.

In the meantime, you could also try contacting Wearever Consumer Center to see if they can assist you. You can reach them at Mirro Company, 2015 Mirro Drive, Manitowoc, WI 54221. For mailing, contact Wearever Consumer Center at P.O. Box 583, Toledo, Ohio 43697-0583. You can also reach Wearever via e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at (800)527-7727. Regarding your question about the VHS tape, Sun Spots is not aware of any and perhaps other readers might be willing to share some tips with you.

Dear Sun Spots: The Lewiston High School Class of 1945 will hold its 60th class reunion and the committee is looking for a piano player who is familiar with ’40s music to play during the dinner hour. The event will take place Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Ramada Inn, Lewiston. Dinner will be served from 2 to 4 p.m. If we cannot find a pianist, the committee would consider having a DJ who plays ’40s music. However, the piano is our first choice.

Any contacts that Sun Spots has would be appreciated, or any you can put us in contact with would be greatly appreciated. Please call Rosemarie Butler at (207) 782-6373. We all depend on Sun Spots to find answers to our questions and appreciate your outstanding service and contribution to our area. – Rosemarie Butler, Lewiston.
