AUGUSTA – The Child Health Center will be one of 20 nonprofits attending and exhibiting at Nonprofit Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 23, at the Hall of Flags, Statehouse, sponsored by the Maine Association of Nonprofits.

The event is open and free to the public and Betsy Sweet will talk on “Nonprofits and State Government: Working Together for the Citizens of Maine.” A press conference will take place in the Hall of Flags regarding the status of the nonprofit field in today’s challenging economic, political and social climate.

The Child Health Center works with chidren and their families throughout Oxford, Androscoggin, northern Cumberland and southern Franklin counties.

Begun in 2004, the goals of Nonprofit Day are to increase visibility of nonprofits and their crucial contributions to the state, strengthen relationships between nonprofit leaders and public officials, encourage individual nonprofit leaders to see themselves as part of the greater nonprofit sector.

Participating area organizations include L/A Arts, Lewiston; Child Health Center, Norway; and Maine Handicapped Skiing, Newry.
