PERU – Elmer “Tim” Magoon, 70, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, May 18, at his home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1935, to Grace and Chester Magoon of Dixfield. Due to the passing of his mother Feb. 5, 1935, he was raised by two loving foster parents, Lucille and Isaac Searles of Peru. He attended the Peru Elementary School and Dirigo High School.

He belonged to the Company B National Guard in Rumford.

He married his high school sweetheart, Eugenie P. London, Dec. 4, 1953.

He enjoyed bowling, ski jumping and hockey. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved nature, the outdoors and wildlife, and greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed sharing his life and love with his wife of 51 years, in the log cabin which he built and lovingly named “Genie’s cabin.”

He raised six children and worked in the Stowell McGregor Sawmill for years, then became a union bricklayer. He was a respected mason widely known in the White Mountains in New Hampshire and throughout Maine. He was especially recognized in his artistry in stone and brick.

He loved God, his wife, family and friends. He was a “small” man with a big heart. He was a source of strength, pride and happiness to his children. He showed his love for God and others by giving anything to anybody that was in-need.

He stood by his family and friends through their tough times. This was especially demonstrated through the love and care he gave his wife and “soul mate” even though he himself was growing gravely ill. He loved with all his heart, and is and always will be loved with all of ours.

Surviving are Grace R. Packard and husband, Steve, of Peru; David C. Magoon and wife, Janet, of Peru; Richard K. Magoon and wife, June, of Rome, N.Y.; Peggy Sue Masalsky and husband, Steve, of Mexico; Felicia Rose Biggs and husband, Kevin, of Aloha, Ore.; Clinton T. Magoon and wife, Linda, of Lewiston; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eugenie P. London Magoon, on Oct. 7, 2004; and a sister, Methel Magoon.
