AUBURN – Donald W. Linscott Jr., L/A Veterans Association parade chairman, has announced the route of the Memorial Day Parade to be held on Monday, May 30.

Formation will take place at 9 a.m. at Park Street and Kennedy Park. The parade will lead off at 10, going down Chestnut Street, to Lisbon Street, to Main Street, crossing the Longley Bridge into Auburn. Paraders will go right around the Platz building onto Center Street, stopping at the corner of Court and Center streets.

There will be a 10-minute ceremony at the Androscoggin County Building. with prayers and the reading of recently deceased veterans of Post 1603, VFW, and American Legion Posts 153 and 31.

The parade will then turn right down Court Street, cross the bridge and assemble on the Lewiston side of the bridge for ceremonies at the newly created Veterans Memorial Park.

Those responding to invitations to participate in the parade include members of the Auburn and Lewiston city governments, Sen. Peggy Rotundo of Lewiston, Boy Scout Troop 137 of the High Street Congregational Church, Lewiston High School Marching Band and Color Guard, combined Auburn Middle School and Edward Little High School Marching Band, Boy Scout Pack 160, Capt Frank W. Hulett VFW Post 1603 Color Guard and Auxiliary.

Also, American Legion Post 153 and Auxiliaries and its Cub Scout Pack, representatives of a local motorcycle association, Legion Post 31, American Legion in vehicles, French American War Veterans 31 and its Auxiliaries, Daughters of American Revolution, Lewiston Fire Department Color Guard and Fire Engine, Auburn Girl Scouts, DAV 11, vehicles and National Guard units.

Any other units wishing to march or participate are asked to contact Linscott at 784-3024 and leave a message.

The New Auburn American Legion will have an open house immediately following the parade, and the Auburn VFW 1603 will have an open house at 1 p.m.
