PORTLAND (AP) – A throwing error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez cost two runs as the Bowie Baysox rallied for three in the ninth inning to beat the Portland Sea Dogs 4-1 Friday.
With the score tied 1-1, leadoff hitter Simon Pond drew a walk. After Mike Huggins also walked and Woody Cliffords single loaded the bases, Brandon Marsters hit an easy grounder to Ramirez, but the highly touted shortstop threw wildly to the plate, allowing Pond and Huggins to scamper across.
Brandon Fahey’s sacrifice fly closed the scoring at 4-1.
Portland (22-14) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Ramirez singled then scored on Brandon Moss’ double into the left center-field gap.
The Baysox (20-20) tied it in the fourth when Tripper Johnson singled, advanced to third on Pond’s double and scored on Huggins’ groundout.
