This is a response to the May 18 letter from Fred Cooper titled “Gun nanny.” As I read that letter, I was more and more shocked. Shocked that it is considered ignorant to put fireworks and firearms in the same category, even though both are violent and can be very deadly.

How can people think it is good to have guns for protection, even at riots?

I don’t think it’s a good idea to shoot people for trying to steal material possessions.

I think it is a good idea to have gun nannies. Then, maybe the young people who need to feel that they have power over everyone will stop killing their classmates.

Guns should be put in a category with the violent and deadly.

Maybe the “knowledgeable” gun owners are the ones who need to get in touch with reality.

One pull of the trigger, one shot, one man down.
