“The first casualty when war comes is truth,” Sen. Hiram W. Johnson.

In Bush’s war against the American people, the truth of the Environmental Protection Agency’s research on mercury has been a casualty.

But deception is business as usual. Do you remember, “We know where they (WMDs) are. They’re in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat.” (Donald Rumsfeld, ABC interview, March 30, 2003)

The FDA tried to anonymously trash Dr. Graham for whistle-blowing about its kowtowing to drug companies, (Marc Kaufman, Washington Post, Nov. 24)

Bunnatine Greenhouse, a whistle-blower objected to the government’s Halliburton deals – and says now she’s paying for it (Beyond The Call of Duty, Nov. 1, 2004, No. 65532, Time.com)

How can we protect whistle-blowers and safeguard America’s chance of exposing the truth? The Union of Concerned Scientists asks us to lobby our members of Congress to “help prevent the misuse of government science by co-sponsoring the Restore Scientific Integrity to Federal Research and Policy Making Act (H.R. 839).”

Let’s not let President Bush sell out this country without a fight.
