AUBURN – Business leaders, educators and community members will gather Wednesday to discuss ways to double the number of college-educated people in Androscoggin County.
According to the 2000 census, fewer than 30 percent of Androscoggin County’s working adults have college degrees. That’s compared to 37 percent statewide and 45 percent in New England.
Androscoggin has the fourth-lowest number of college-educated adults of the state’s 16 counties.
An offshoot of a statewide initiative, College for ME-Androscoggin hopes to change that. On Wednesday, former Gov. Angus King, area business leaders, educators and community members will discuss the situation and come up with ways to double the number of college educated adults living in the county.
The meeting will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. The public is invited to participate. For more information and to register, people are asked to send e-mail to [email protected] or to call Sandi Croft at 753-6556. Registration is required.
