OXFORD – Brian L. Sawyer, 63, of 15 Gladys Lane, died Friday, May 20, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Gardiner, a son of Alvin L. and Lucille Goodwin Sawyer. He was raised and educated in Gardiner and Scarborough.
He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force. After the service, he moved to the Lynn, Mass., area and was employed by Lynn Water and Sewer for many years, before retiring and moving to Oxford.
He enjoyed fishing, fly tying, hunting (he made his own bows), NASCAR and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Burnell Sawyer, of Oxford; sons, Dennis and Yoko Sawyer of Lynn, Mass., and Tommy, Harley and Ricky Sawyer of Massachusetts; a daughter, Bridget Sawyer of New Hampshire; a brother, Fenton and Jannette Sawyer of Alabama; a sister, Sheila and Ed Emery of New Gloucester; stepchildren, Deborah and Richard Williams of Buxton, Norma Jean and Norman Storey of Sebago, Raymond Henderson of Standish, and Michael and Mary Henderson of Kennebunk; and several grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a daughter, Cindy Sawyer.
