A personally conducted excursion to the Pacific coast via The Grand Trunk Railway System and connecting lines leaves Portland, Maine, July 5. The route will be via Montreal, Toronto and Chicago, thence through Council Bluffs to Omaha, Denver and Colorado Springs. Stops will be made at each of these places, and side trips taken to Manitou, Cripple Creek, Garden of the Gods, etc. From there the party will continue through the famous scenic route of the Denver and Rio Grande, through the Royal Gore to Salt Lake City, thence to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Mt. Shasta, Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Spokane, and home through St. Paul and Minneapolis. The trip will occupy about thirty days, ten days being spent on the Pacific coast. The price for the round trip, including railroad fare, Pullman tourist sleeping cars, all meals in the dining car, hotels, side trips, etc., is $162.50 from Portland.

While driving about the Twin Cities in an auto, did you ever want to telephone the office or home, or wish you could call your husband while he is coming home in the car? Well, it can be done now. The mobile telephone service of the Lewiston-Auburn District of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. went on the air recently. The new setup will permit a motorist using the service to telephone from his auto to any regular telephone subscriber, another motor vehicle or a boat having a mobile unit. Boats can have either the same type unit as autos or the usual marine system of ship-to-shore telephone.

25 Years Ago, 1980

The Boston Red Sox looked more like a bunch of lost sheep than major league baseball players on a day off Thursday as they milled around the clubhouse while preparing to go on strike. Players talked quietly with each other, read mail and cleaned out personal belongings from lockers. Not allowed to take their club-owned luggage, personal items were carted out in plastic trash can liners.
