FARMINGTON – Doris J. Newell, 67, of Kingfield, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 23, in the emergency room at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 7, 1938, in Kingfield, the daughter of Wallace and Lora (Henry) Meldrum, number seven of their eight children. She was a 1956 graduate of Kingfield High School.

She enjoyed teaching her Sunday school class at Mountain View Bible Church in New Vineyard and singing specials in the morning services. The social committee was also an important part of her ministries.

Each winter, she knit mittens of various sizes and gave them away to anyone who might need or want a pair. She was very caring and compassionate to her grandchildren who were a big part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with them, cooking their favorite cookies or foods and just acting silly with them. She also enjoyed reading, playing beano, watching her birds and working on puzzles.

She is survived by two sons, Walter Newell and his wife, Kaye, of Kingfield, and Charles Newell and his wife, Crystal, of Salem; two daughters, Terry Wills and her husband, Stan, of New Portland, and Lori Hunter and her husband, Jim, of Farmington; 10 grandchildren, Travis, Ben, Nick, Sierra, Dan, Chad, Ariel, Joe, KaSandra and Lucas; and five brothers, Earnest Meldrum and his wife, Dot, of Temple, Ronald Meldrum and his wife, Ellinda, of Kingfield, Vernon Meldrum and his wife, Joyce, of Arizona, Merton Meldrum and his wife, Joan, of Conn., and Raymond Meldrum and his wife, Patricia “Pat,” of Kingfield.

She was predeceased by an infant sister; her parents; a sister, Phyllis; and her former husband, Donald Newell.
