Sabattus Lake is fast growing in favor, and without doubt is to be one of the favorite fishing resorts of the State. The summer colony has grown steadily for the past few years and two cottages are now going up, several people are looking around for lots and the outlook is that another season will see things booming in Sabattus. There are now 10 launches upon the lake, the latest arrivals being the gasoline launches owned by Eugene Reny of New Auburn, Eugene Fredette of Lewiston, and Jean B. Janelle of the firm Janelle & St. Pierre of Lisbon street, Lewiston.

It may be the hostage crisis or Iran or the gasoline crunch, but whatever the reason, some members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars feel patriotism is on the upward swing. Contacted following the Memorial Day parades and celebrations, three of the men noted a larger crowd gathering and other positive signs that Americans are beginning to feel better about their country. One, however, did not. William Smyth, member of VFW Post 1603 of Auburn, declared Monday night that “people are pretty damn lackadaisical. I don’t see much of a change,” he said. But Paul Webster, past commander of VFW Post 1603, disagrees. ” I saw a lot more men take their hats off (during the parade) than I’ve seen in years.” he commented.
