PORTLAND – PORTopera’s ninth annual Aria Auction will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the historic West Mansion on the Western Promenade, now the home of Marc and Noa Shinderman.

The theme will be “A Night in Seville” in honor of the setting of the company’s forthcoming opera presentation of Bizet’s Carmen. The décor and menu will be decidedly Spanish.

Tickets are $55 each and are available through PORTopera by calling 207-879-7678.

Up for bid will be walk-on roles in the Carmen production, a South African Safari for two, a weekend in New York including an opera performance at the Metropolitan Opera, a fur opera cape from Dino’s International Furs, and commissioned artworks. The event will include both a live auction and a silent auction.

The annual Aria Auction is PORTopera’s major fund-raising event. This year the funds will support the production of “Carmen” July 27, 29 and July 31 at Merrill Auditorium.
