JAY – “Introduction to Geographic Information Systems for Emergency Response” will be presented by Vicki Schmidt, Maine Fire Training and Education, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Jay Middle School cafeteria.

Light refreshments will be served.

The free open forum is part of a three-session training for area firefighters, who will also be invited to attend classes in pre-planning on June 13 and GPS on June 18.

The Livermore Fire Department invites area emergency responders, municipal officials, code enforcement officers, town clerks, water district and public works personnel to attend the introduction to GIS.

GIS integrates geography with relevant data. The presentation is an opportunity to better understand how data can be collected, stored and shared to benefit the communities. While there is a focus on emergency response, the class will be useful for all areas of municipal government.

Schmidt is a career GIS professional, a Buckfield firefighter and a state fire instructor. Her goals are centered around GIS, improving firefighter safety and spending time with her draft horses.
