MECHANIC FALLS – Students in grade six at Elm Street School were involved with energy education on April 8 and 15.

They participated in an energy debate in which they could defend or deny a source of energy.

Students also created apple batteries, solar collectors and wind fans.

The students are in Dottie Barton’s and Kellie Burns’ classrooms. The program was set up by Karen Downing, Exceeds the Standards instructor, and was presented by Peter Zak and Jeremy from the Maine Environmental Energy program.

The students are going to follow up the activity by creating solar cars for competition at the Owls Head Transportation Museum.
