I attended the Sabattus yearly town meeting. I would first like to say, “shame on the registered voters in the town for not attending.” We have the most democratic form of town government there is and no one seems to care. There were only around 100 taxpayers in attendance.

Now, on to business, there are probably still people in the town who do not know that an article was passed to look into having the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department cover law enforcement for the town. This has been brought up before, and every time it has been brought up in the past, it has been defeated. Now, we are fortunate to have Guy Desjardins, who is employed with the sheriff’s department and on the board of selectmen to bring it up again. Isn’t that a conflict of interest? Can he be objective? Are there any other personal agendas on the board of selectmen?

When the school budget article came around, two people were allowed to speak on behalf of the school, Rep. Scott Lansley and Superintendent Paul Malinski. When they were finished, the article was moved without further discussion, leaving many of us sitting there wondering where the train came from that hit us. This, in my opinion, was an orchestrated event.

Members of the board of selectmen hold elected positions, and townspeople can and should execute the right to vote, to change as many faces on the board as possible, as soon as possible.
