HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) – Film star Lindsay Lohan’s father was sentenced Friday to up to four years in prison for a series of crimes that ended when he drove his car into a utility pole in February, a Nassau County prosecutor said.

Michael Lohan was sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison for driving while impaired in the Feb. 19 crash, as well as for attempted assault and other charges resulting from separate incidents, Assistant District Attorney Joy Watson said.

The attempted assault charge – which he pleaded guilty to in December – stemmed from an attack on his brother-in-law with a shoe at a party last May.

While awaiting sentencing, Lohan was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

after his Volvo went off the road, struck a pole and burst into flames. Lohan was not injured.

Lohan had been driving with a suspended or revoked license and had a blood-alcohol limit nearly double the legal limit, Watson said. He pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced charge of driving while impaired.

Judge Claire Weinberg rejected a request by Lohan’s lawyers that he be sentenced to an alcohol rehabilitation program instead of prison.

“It is our position that he will hopefully avail himself of whatever rehabilitation program is available in the correctional facility,” Watson said by telephone. “He committed his latest crimes while he was out on bail awaiting sentencing on felony charges, demonstrating blatant disregard for the criminal justice system.”

Lohan’s lawyer, Rory Calhoun, said Lohan would seek counseling.

“His main concern is that he gets continued treatment so that he can put his life back in order and put his relationship with his children back in order,” said Calhoun. “All else will be dealt with in time.”

Lindsay Lohan, 18, starred in such films as “The Parent Trap,” “Mean Girls,” “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen” and “Freaky Friday.”
