MECHANIC FALLS – PFC Kyle Steven Purington, son of Jolleen Purington Young of Mechanic Falls and Ellery Batchelder Jr. of Levant, is completing training and will graduate on June 28.

Purington, a 2004 graduate of Poland Regional High School, enlisted in the Marines in March 2004.

In October 2004, Purington was sworn into the Marines in Portland, with his family present, before leaving for Parris Island, S.C. Graduating from boot camp in January, 2005, Purington obtained his sharpshooter status with a rifle score of 217, a level 3 for his swim qualification and was presented with a National Defense ribbon for enlisting in the Marines at a time of war.

After spending some time home with his family, he went to Camp Geiger, located at Camp Lejuene, N.C. There he completed all of his combat training requirements as a part of his military combat training, graduating on March 8.

While waiting for entry into his next level of training, Purington received a meritorious certificate for exemplary service of camp guard over a two-week period and was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class from private.

He entered his Military Occupational Specialty motor transport training and is finishing that training at Camp Johnson, also located at Camp Lejuene.

Purington is squad leader in his class and will graduate on June 28.

After a short visit home to Mechanic Falls, Purington will join his company, currently assigned for Okinawa, Japan, for the next two years.
