WILTON – The Western Mountain Women’s Connection will host Cindy Goding of Goding’s Taekwondo as featured guest on Tuesday, June 7, at the Boiler Room Restaurant, Main Street.

She will demonstrate self-defense techniques for women. Lois Ladner, guest speaker, will talk about “The Joys of Singleness”. Area women are invited to attend Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Boiler Room Restaurant, Main St.

There are two opportunities to attend. Lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost of $11 includes gratuity and tax. Reservations and cancellations are essential. Call Darlene at 597-2955 or e-mail her at dandd@megalink.net.

Screenings

BETHEL – The Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute Wellness van will be at the Bethel Family Health Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 3. Donna Jordan, RN, will other free blood pressure, osteoporosis and cardiac risk screening. Free cholesterol screening is limited to the first 20 people who sign up, and registration is required. Socrates Club

BETHEL – Western Mountains Senior College held an introductory meeting about Socrates Clubs in Bethel recently. Some 20 members evaluated the program as “stimulating and thought provoking” and made plans to meet regularly.

The next meeting will be held from 4 to to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at Garland Chapel, West Parish Congregational Church, Broad Street. New members are welcome.

Professor George Miller, University of Maine at Farmington, Department of Philosophy, facilitated the discussion. Miller or one of his team members hopes to be on hand for future meetings.

Socrates Clubs and Cafes are springing up across the country as people with an interest in becoming independent thinkers, better questioners and listeners meet for sociability and sharing of ideas on an intellectual level. For more information, call Jackie Cressy at 824-0508.

Team meeting

MEXICO – The next meeting of the Youth Resource Team will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at the Teen Center on Recreation Drive. Plans will be made for an ice cream social and discussion about the MYAN training, and the future planning for the Teen Center and Youth Directory will be held.
