BANGOR – Donald Winfield Thayer, 70, of Winterport, husband of Kathleen (Tripp) Thayer, formerly of Leeds, passed away Sunday, May 29, at a Bangor hospital.

He was born in Littleton, N.H., June 14, 1934, the son of Winfield W. and Marjorie (Church) Thayer. He was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Derry, N.H., and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army.

He had worked for many years at the Diamond Lumber retail store on the Odlin Road in Bangor. He had been a volunteer at EMMC Cardiac PAT. He had been an officer and member of the Penobscot Valley Kennel Club for many years, and bred and showed Alaskan malamutes.

He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, Oakland Raiders football, bowling in the Pine Tree League for many years, and collecting anything depicting wolves.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen of Winterport; two sisters, Bette Moore and her husband, Bill of Londonderry, N.H., and Marilyn Marceau of Dover, N.H.; one brother, David Thayer and his wife, Betty, of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Joan and Barbara, and one brother, Bradley.
