WILTON – A 17-year-old Jay juvenile was arrested early Saturday morning after police said he led them on a chase through Wilton and Chesterville.
Wilton police officer Terry Warren attempted to stop the driver on Main Street for a traffic violation at around 1:30 a.m. near High Street, according Police Chief Wayne Gallant Tuesday.
Instead of stopping, the driver took off leading Warren down Main and Depot streets and across Route 2. He was chased down Route 156 to the Chesterville store hitting speeds up to 60 mph, Gallant said. Jay police and sheriff’s deputies set up roadblocks, some with spike mats, but the juvenile was able to avoid the mats and went through the blocks.
The vehicle he was driving “blew a tire,” according to Gallant, and the driver stopped on a dirt road off East Jay Road. At least two passengers fled the scene. The vehicle sustained about $2,500 of damage.
The boy was arrested and charged with three counts of passing a roadblock and one count each of eluding a police officer and driving to endanger. He was turned over to his parents at about 4 a.m. A court date has been set for sometime in July.
